If there’s any lesson I might need taught on a weekly basis, it’s humility. It is so easy to forget what a screw up I can be and that I am nothing without him. It’s so easy to think I have it all together and yet forget who I need to rely on.
Humility is defined as “marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful.” When I look at that definition I realize how much I desire to be marked in that manner.
Truth #1:
The truth is: Humility comes with intention.
At least for me it does. The truth is I can’t imagine anyone wants to come off as prideful. I certainly do not.
It just happens because it’s sin and I forget that it’s not about me. It’s all about him.
But humility comes when we intentionally pray, seek and listen. Earnestly seek God. I pray that in whatever I do it will point to him not back at me.
We are not here for the applause of men. We are here for the glory of God.
Truth #2:
The truth is: Humility is a hard lesson. We want to look like we have it all together. When God decides to teach us humility it may be for others to witness.
Ouch! It seems there is a learning curve to it. Once you get past the first few lessons it gets easier. Here’s the key to this truth. If you’re a quick learner it will be much simpler.
God will continue to give us little pride checks throughout our lives just to keep up on us. Remember, he loves us and wants what is best for us.
Truth #3:
The truth is: God favors and honors the humble. God holds us in high respect when we put aside our pride and live in humility.
When we are humble and submit ourselves to God it allows him to work through us. When we are prideful we are thinking about “me, myself, I. “How can God work through that so he gets the glory? I don’t see how he can. We are taking all the glory he deserves and resting it on ourselves
1 Peter 5:5-6 And all of you serve each other in humility, for “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” So humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
