Have you ever thought about the lies that we tell ourselves about humans? I’ve come up with a list of things based off of a class I took several years back.
These are lies that try to make us feel better about ourselves. Lies that boost our ego. Pride that can trip us up.
People are basically good. We are not. We are all sinners. We mess up every day . We are only saved by God’s mercy and grace. Jesus Christ is our only ticket for taking away our sin.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
People need more self esteem. No. We are already a conceited people. We think of ourselves above anyone. We need to be in a place where we realize that our worth is in God and what He has done for us not in ourselves.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
People can’t love others unless they love themselves. Learning to love is learning to respond in the love of what God has done in our lives. Our past forms us and shapes us into who He wants us to be.
Galatians 5: 13-14 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Don’t tell anyone their faults. We don’t want to offend. If someone close to you is sinning or if someone comes to you for advice tell them the truth about God’s ways. That person needs to be made aware of where they are falling out of line by God’s word. We can do this in a loving way and have that person come to the realization of his/her sin. If we truly want to help others we won’t judge them. We won’t judge their opinions, their choices or the things they are involved in. We can help someone realize the wrong of their sin but we can’t show positive acceptance of sin. Bring the truth to light if needed but don’t criticize.
Matthew 7:1 NLT Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
Only thinking positively. It truly is good to be positive. We need to be optimistic when difficult things come our way and when dealing with others. However, we need to be realistic in certain cases. If we are not realistic in a situation and are blinded by our sin we may also be blinded to God’s correction and guidance that He’s providing.
Proverbs 29:23 A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.
Staying in love is the key to a great relationship. Wrong. Staying committed is the key to a great relationship. We at times will fall out of love but we can’t get by and stay faithful based on our emotions. We all make mistakes however we need to be devoted. Once we are committed in our earthly relationships it will much easier it is to be devoted to our heavenly Father who longs to have a close relationship with us.
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
What are others lies do you recognize about human nature that I may have missed? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!
Love and blessings,
Melanie
