A recent quote I heard by Bob Golf, “I used to think God guided us by opening and closing doors but now I know sometimes God wants us to kick some doors down.” This made me think about our physical strength.
I’m faced with a door that is stuck shut. It’s imperative that I get in there. I need my camera and no one is around to help me. HELP! How will I survive? My determination could drive me to kick down that door whether it is on the first go around or until I am physically exhausted.
My 4 1/2 year determined in his mind one day that he waned to ride a 2 wheeler. So he got himself some tools and got to work. He got one training wheel off. I found him as he was struggling to get off the second. He pushed and pulled but alas it wouldn’t budge. He really tried with all his might he just couldn’t seem to get it.
If determination was all he needed to finish the task he would have it done. Determination is described as a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. It can allow us to do crazy things and achieve amazing results.
However, determination can quickly subside because it is not fueled by our love. Passion on the other hand will not only get you to kick the door down but it will push to you fight for what’s on the other side.
One of the definitions for passion is ardent affection: Love. Plain and simple. Our love is our passion. Whether we’re called to serve in missions, music or youth our passion for people should be guided by our love for Christ. I’ve asked myself “What do I love?”and “Is this worth my love?”
1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” God’s passion is people. Is that the love that is driving us?
John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. “
Verse to reflect on: 1 Thessalonians 3:12 “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.”
What are you determined to do in this life? Or how are you using your passion to love on others? Please share in the comments section. I’d love to here!
Blessings to you!
