There’s nothing like golden brown delicious flaky buttery crescent rolls. Is that enough adjectives for you? Or should I maybe add soft, supple and amazing too? There you go. That sounds even better yet.
I’ve been wanting to put a crescent roll recipe on the blog but I really wanted a simple one. So many that I’ve come across are a 2 day process which is fine but….I need to keep some simple breads around. We don’t all have that much time to meet our bread and rolls satisfaction.
So after making this recipe I decided it was the perfect one to bring here and share with all of you. It was delicious, easy and ready in a little over an hour. We can handle that, right?
Now if you’re looking to spend more time on your bread then you must go check out my delicious crusty French bread baguettes. 2 day process but totally worth it! Or you can try these Artisan Ciabatta Rolls. Amazing as well.
These Easy No Knead Crescent Rolls will make a perfect addition to your Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. They substitute well for the refrigerated tubes you find in a store. Yes! No added preservatives. Fresh and homemade. Just the way we like it.

Easy No Knead Crescent Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons 1 envelope active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Additional butter for brushing tops
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray with nonstick cooking spray or melted butter.
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add butter, sugar and egg to the yeasted mixture. Stir in the flour, baking powder and salt with a wooden spoon just until combined. Shape into a ball. Cover with a towel. Let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Divide dough in half. Roll each half on a floured surface in a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Cut into 12 equal triangles. Starting with the wider end, roll up each dough triangle. Place on prepared baking sheet. Cover baking pan with a clean, dry towel and let dough rise for 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake rolls until golden brown, 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven. Immediately brush with butter.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

As someone who often wants pizza because I am really just in the mood for garlic bread, I love the idea of Easy No Knead Crescent Rolls. This is the first bit of food I saw this morning and now I want Crescent Rolls for breakfast. 😉 This recipe looks amazing and would be perfect for family holidays, among other things. Totally pinned! Thank Cailee!
I’ve yet to make homemade bread, but this would be a good start. Under an hour? I think anyone can handle that. I bet you could put all sorts of goodies in these before you roll them too. Cheese, herbs and/or caramelized onions all come to mind.
Those are some great ideas Matt! I definitely need to try one of two. Thanks for stopping by!
I love crescent rolls! I’ve only ever made the kind in a can, and we always have them at Easter too. But this year I am going to go homemade all the way! Thanks for this recipe Melanie!

Thanks Liz! They’re totally the best when they are warm!
I love me some rolls so I can’t wait to sink my teeth into these buttery crescents!
These rolls are amazing! Because I had to add more flour than the recipe called for, I ended up with quite a lot of dough. From one batch I made one dozen crescent rolls, 16 pizza rolls, and one dozen mini cinnamon rolls. (Note: The last two recipes are from the Comfort of Cooking website.) I highly recommend these rolls, either as is, or in recipes that call for crescent rolls. Thanks so much.
Thanks Jocelyn! Glad you enjoyed them and get to enjoy all the goodies now. 🙂
Looks great!
Can these be made in advance and refrigerated?
I need to bring them to dinner on Thursday and am trying to back-track how much time I”ll need. Thanks!
I would either make and bake them completely and freeze them. Or, if you want you can try shaping them and refrigerate them for only up to 1 day before baking.
I haven’t tried it for this particular recipe but I have had success with refrigerating some dough overnight.
I hope they turn out well Nicole!
Is it really necessary to let them rise a second time? I’m sometimes in a hurry and don’t have time. will they come out fine if I only let them rise the 1st time then to the oven?
I’m sorry Jenn. I haven’t tried without a 2nd rise. Most bread recipes knead both rise times for it to be perfect. Hope they turn out wonderful no matter what you decide!
Question…. could you use this recipe and just form balled rolls? Silly I know but was thinking it would be nice if it wasn’t always crescent. Like maybe for buns!
I have never tried it Brandi. But if you do come back and let us know how they turn out please! Enjoy! Come back soon. 🙂
Gorgeous photos and amazing looking crescent rolls! I need to add teaspoon of honey instead of ⅓ cup granulated sugar to recipe and it would be perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Tried making it and made a taco ring which called for the canned dough. Perfect substitute for the canned dough. Thanks!
Can the dough be made in a bread maker?
Most likely that will work well Kayren. Enjoy the rolls!
Thank you for your fast reply
Omg! These crescent rolls are to die for! The recipe is so easy to put together and follow. I am a novice and haven’t mastered kneading. I’ve to try some of your other recipes. Thanks for being so generous and sharing your culinary gifts.
Thank you Calandra. Appreciate your kind words!
