Have you ever received an unexpected gift from someone? No occasion. No reason. Just a ‘Because I thought of you’ gift. I have. It’s truly a great feeling to know that someone cares enough about you to send you something that says ‘I care.’
Gratitude. I looked up the definition. It says “readiness to show appreciation for.” There are many ways we can show our appreciation. But how sweet is it to receive a “Just Because” gift?
This happened to me twice recently and it blessed me immeasurably. It cheered me up on a day when I was down. It brought me to tears knowing that someone truly cares about me.
It’s so easy to just go about our busy little lives and forget to stop. To take a minute to warmly thank someone with a small gift of gratitude. I’m so guilty of it myself. I have so many people in my life that I truly cherish and wouldn’t want my life to be without. So why shouldn’t I pause and take some time to let them know that.
There may be a time when I don’t have that privilege any more. There may be a time when it’s too late. And I choose to try to live with no regrets. So do it. Now. Today.
Set some time aside. Think of someone in your life who you truly appreciate but yet maybe you don’t get to see each other than often. Maybe you don’t get to talk very much anymore. Maybe it’s someone close by in your neighborhood. Maybe it’s a long lost relative.
Now think about this person. What might make their eyes light up? What have you perhaps heard them mention that they really enjoy? Maybe you don’t know them well enough. But you can’t go wrong with something you made. Perhaps you’re a knitter, a scarf. Perhaps you enjoy being in the kitchen like me, baked goods. Perhaps they’re on a limited budget? How can you go wrong with a gift card to their favorite place?
Just think what a joy and delight you be to someone else. I still treasure those moments when a friend took time out of her day to say, “Hey, I was thinking of you today. Here.”
Be a blessing. Go “Just Because”. You can be the greatest blessing to someone’s day.
P.S. I can’t share about my ‘Just Because’ gift here publicly. Because I don’t want credit for it. I just want to bless someone.
