Well summer is going strong here at the Carmel House. Just kiddin’ that is NOT our last name. Would be a great last name though.
It’s so hard to believe that we’re 3 weeks into summer vacation. AHHH…..I’m gonna start stressing. Slow down summer. Please. I’m begging you.
I thought I’d share a little peak into our summer so far. I created this several weeks ago as our Summer Fun To-Do (Bucket) List. So it’s cool to see how we’re actually coming along. Hopefully I can give an update every week or so.
So far we have done:
1. Strawberry picking
I shared this photo a few weeks ago. Great day. Sweet fun. The kids complain a bit but we all love the results.
2. Go to Yofresh
This one rocks. It’s one of those self serve yogurt/ice cream shops. The kids adore (and of course, Mom does too.) It’s a special treat since it’s fairly expensive but we had a giftcard to put towards it so that helps a lot.
3. Go to the creek
We met up with some friends this week for some fun at the creek. It’s free and they love it. What’s better than some cool water, the company of friends and some hot sunshine or a warm summer day? Nothing really. 🙂 Thanks for joining us, friends!
(Yes, a couple are missing in this picture. But it’s kind of hard to keep them all in one place!)
4. Catch fireflies
Kids always have to catch fireflies at least once in the summer. I have to include the pics even though they are terrible. Let’s just put it this way. My skills really need to improve in the area of taking action pictures at dusk. Whew! Quite the challenge.
And seriously, what could be better than catching fireflies in your PJs? 😉
I love this action shot of little dude!
I know. It seems he’s always shirtless. It’s not my problem. It’s out of my control! And, yes, I know you can see his ribs. I promise we do feed him.
We hit up the strawberry patch again this week. I just can’t get enough of them. This time we visited Oak Grove Farms. We found a great deal under the racks of produce. They called it HodgePodge and they priced it at $7.95.
We thought it was a steller deal and grabbed it up quick. I’m assuming it is the seconds. Things with a few bumps or dents that don’t look as pretty in the store. We don’t care!
It includes pickling cucumbers, beets, tomatoes, green onions, cabbage, variety of peppers, zucchini, squash, broccoli and radishes. Like I said we could not pass it up! I wish I would have weighed it. This box is big. You can’t even see everything underneath.
Stay tuned to see what we can cross off the list next week.
Hope you had a beyond awesome week! What did you do to create some memories?

Wow! Thanks for sharing all of that, especially the pictures. They bring back a lot of memories when my children were young ( although now they have children in college lol)
Wonderful post! HUGZ:)

Aww. I’m glad to hear that these memories will linger for a very long time. So glad you stopped by Candace.
Have a beautiful day!

I love your HodgePodge deal- what a bargain! And I’m with you, I definitely don’t mind seconds, especially when they are that cheap!
I keep seeing these Summer Fun Lists all over the place and really think I should just do one for us, even though we are several weeks into summer. For me, summer can be so busy (I do a lot of canning and freezing) and I’m finding it is so easy for a week to go by without doing anything “fun” that we wanted to do.
Looking forward to seeing what else you all do!

I do a lot of canning too but that usually doesn’t start until July. So far I’ve only done Strawberry Jam.
This year I made it a point to make and print a visible list. Because so often we have grand summer plans and we don’t get to do half of what we had hoped.
So we’re knocking them out this year! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Lydia!

Love that little glimpse into the start of your summer! Looks like you guys have an awesome couple of months planned. And that produce deal at the bottom rocks!!!
Melanie says
Thanks Chris. It does rock. We’ve been eating awesome veggies all weekend. The kids are getting a little tired of yellow squash but that’s OK. Nothing like delicious garden goods. Thanks for stopping by!
Jessica @ Jessiker Bakes says
Melanie you have such a gorgeous family! I love that you shared your memories so far with us – that bucket list is awesome and I hope you get to do many more this summer!
Melanie says
Aww. Thanks Jessica! So glad you stopped by.

I love your summer activities! I haven’t chased fireflies in so long. Strawberry picking is fun, just went a few weeks ago!

It’s been fun so far. Can’t wait to see what this week will hold. 🙂
