In the kitchen over the sink I hear him calling. Calling for time. Time spent away from my tasks, requirements, business. I respond with obedience.
Sitting on an unmade bed still in my pajamas at 3:30 in the afternoon. A coat thrown across after a trip to the bus stop. Just waiting. Yesterday’s clothes strewn on the floor. Just waiting. Dough rising in the kitchen. Just waiting. Wash in the dryer. Just waiting.
Coffee in hand. I sigh deeply. These moments are precious. I steal away to my room. I muffle the outside sounds and breathe in. I invite His presence to fill this place. This messy place. This messy heart. And He comes. Yes, He does. And I ask myself as I savor the moment, “Why don’t I do this more often?”And he speaks lovingly and gently. ‘Because I call you and you don’t stop time to be with me.’
He calls me daily to steal time away. Not bible time. Not ‘battle’time. Not worship time. Just time. Plain and simple time. That’s all he desires. Why can’t I give Him more time freely? It’s just time. It’s free. It’s here. And there’s plenty more to come.
You are….
The Time Holder.
The Time Maker.
The Time Taker.
In due time each of our time will be taken away forever.
(~ Clock from Dayspring ~)
So what do I have to lose? Nothing. I just give back to you what you have already given to me. This precious thing called TIME.
We’re together. We can dream. We can plan. We can cry. We can share. We connect. You and I and time.
It’s as if time stands still when it’s spent with you. But of course the creator can make time seem as if it’s standing still.
Time …..so magnificently crafted.
……..so marvelously spent.
……..so beautiful in the moment.
Time keeps on ticking. Moment by moment. But you’re always there. You never leave. You’re waiting for another moment to steal away with me.
When will I put it ALL aside again to be with you? When is a good time? Never.
So I take whatever time I can give. If it’s 10 minutes or 60. If there’s dinner to be made. Or errands to run. Or children about to burst through the door.
Time with you is always well spent.
Time with you keeps on giving.
Even when I walk back through the door to reality.
Time with you leaves me feeling recharged and blessed.
When will we meet again?

Do you ever slip away randomly to spend time with God regardless of what’s going on around you???
I randomly do. It lifts my spirits so much that I know I can accomplish more than I could even if I had not slipped away for those few minutes. Immediately after I’m a much better wife. A much calmer mother. It’s as if a ray of sunshine has just peeked through the dark darkness of the clouds.
So thankful for time that’s not wasted.
For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. (Even time) Colossians 1:6

Such a good reminder… He calls us to simply be still, but it’s so hard to do! It seems like there is always something that has to get done. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks Chris. I agree. So hard to do at times. But it’s what I always need. Thanks for stopping by!

I love this post Melanie! So well written – time, a few moments with him in the middle of the hustle and bustle is so renewing indeed. Last year for a month, my church did a prayer prompt 3 times a day – at a specified time we would get a text and dropped what we were doing for seconds or minutes to pray – what started as a prompt turned into a habit and eventually a necessity for a lot of us.
Great post!
