Boo! Last week included the typical night when you go trick or treating which we’ve done many times in the past. I really wanted to incorporate my desire to be a help and a blessing. If we always do what we always have done we can’t expect change.
So I racked my brain and scoured the internet. I found this wonderful idea from Jennifer @ Smelling Coffee. Instead of just going out and touring the neighborhood maybe we could make a small difference. We handed out little bags of candy with a sweet message attached. 🙂
Halloween is the perfect night to get to know your neighbor better. What other time do you get to come face to face with everyone you live near?
That’s all it takes. One person. One small thing. You never know the impact you could have on someone else. You never know what that someone has been through.
I’m thoroughly enjoying my journey of helping. I never want to run out of ideas. Because there are so many hurting, lonely people I must continue on.
Some days life is completely overwhelming and I face the decision of how to use my time just like everyone. I mean there are dirty dishes in the sink, a floor that hasn’t been vacuumed, clothes that need put away. But even though those things are important to the upkeep of my home they will always be there. That vicious cycle that never seems to end.
These things don’t fulfill me. They give me a sense of accomplishment for sure. But in the end it’s obviously a fleeting feeling because tomorrow there will be more dirt to clean.
So when I want to just stay home and think of myself and what I need to get done. I stop myself. The end is coming near. I’m coming near to the heart of God. God’s heart shouts people, people, people. Everyone is important to him.
Don’t forget that one person can make a small difference that can have a huge impact. Chin up and march on!
Love you friends!
Melanie

What a fantastic idea! I’m going to mention this to members in my church for our outreach we have every Halloween. Brilliant!
I know. It is a great idea. So glad I came across it. Hope you can give it a try!
