Our weekend started off with a bang on Thursday evening. We went to the school picnic and open house. Each class made a raffle basket with donations given by the parents. There were plenty to choose from including a Penn State basket, a swimming basket, a Fix it Basket, a Day Out Local basket (full of giftcards). You could purchase 10 tickets for $5. Then you choose which basket you like to win and drop your tickets in. Guess who won?
We did. We were so excited. Our basket valued $115 to local joints for donuts, ice cream, gas, food shopping etc. That totally made our night!
Friday night we had a graduation. My husband’s youngest sister graduated high school. Yes, his baby sister. They have 9 children in all. That’s a family right there. 🙂
Unfortunately or fortunately, however I choose to look at it. I didn’t take any pictures. Sometimes it’s really nice not to walk around with a camera and just enjoy the fellowship and company. And that’s exactly what I did. But I do wish I had just taken a couple.
Onto Saturday we had another great day. We had a small group get together. We had fun bbqing, playing football, several rounds of Mexican train (a game played with dominos). Let me just tell you that I totally rock at that game. Of course, I’m kidding. I never had my own train until the last round. Definitely not beginners luck.
It was a great Saturday with lots of food, fellowship and fun. And once again, I didn’t take pictures. But this time it wasn’t on purpose. I just ended up with so much fun that I never remembered to grab the camera. That really annoys me when that happens. 🙂 But I did happen to snap a picture of this guy. I sort of hired him to pump our gas on the way there. Pretty good catch, huh? 😉 Love this guy.
On Sunday, a special little dude celebrated a birthday. He turned a whooping 6! I can’t honestly believe it! Where has time gone? Here he is on his birthday.
Here he is 6 bitty years ago. CRAZY!
For his birthday he treated me well and let me get some pretty decent pictures.
Of course a photo shoot with him wouldn’t be complete without a couple of wacky ones too. That’s my boy!
We made a simple Lego cake this year. It involved me making a huge mess of my kitchen Saturday morning before the picnic. Don’t you just love messy kitchens? But he loved it so momma was happy indeed.
Sunday and Monday involved lots of picnic food and lounging. Lazy lounging. I snapped this shot. Two of our patio table tiles didn’t make it through the winter and we keep forgetting to buy new ones. The dog thought it was her invitation to join us at the table of course. My 11 year old couldn’t help but tease her a bit more with some chicken. Loved this one with her tongue hanging out!
Well unfortunately all wasn’t wonderful on our long weekend. My lovely lady came down with strep throat. Makes a momma’s heart want to break in two. Fever, headache, belly ache, sore throat, she had it all. I didn’t know it was strep at first and just chalked it up to the flu or something. But I decided to do some prodding. Things looked really swollen. So off we went. And antibiotics are at work. My poor girl. Here she is reading Dork Diaries as she patiently waits. She should be good to go tomorrow.
Just last Saturday she ran her first 5k. Talk about a proud momma. I truly was. She wouldn’t even run on the playground because her belly would hurt. Now she ran 3 miles. That’s determination.
Hope you had a great weekend too!
Love and blessings,
Melanie

Happy birthday to your little big boy and sorry to hear about your daughter getting strep throat. Hope she is feeling better.
Such an awesome weekend! Happy birthday to your son and congrats to your daughter! I am thinking of signing up to coach for Girls on the Run. Sounds like such an amazing group!
Congrats on yalls basket win! And Happy Birthday to your adorable 6 yr old (they grow up way way too fast)! So sorry about your daughter – strep throat is no fun – my daughter used to try to convince me that the only thing she could eat was ice cream – she did this every time she lost a tooth too?!?!
Happy Tuesday Melanie
What a great weekend you had! Can’t believe your husband is from a family of 9 kids. Holy moly! Your kids are gonna have a lot of cousins! Happy birthday to your son. His cake looks so cool! Hope your daughter is feeling better soon. Being sick in the summer is no fun.
Sure hope your girl is feeling better and the weekend ended on a good note! Have a great week Melanie!
