Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Waffles – Homemade batter, made with real buttermilk and mini chocolate chips, these fluffy breakfast waffles are perfect!
Hello, Breakfast. Today I’m sharing these delicious chocolate chip buttermilk waffle. So fluffy inside and crisp on the outside.
I have a love-hate relationship with you. I love your delicious array of foods, berries, eggs, pancakes, Dutch baby, casseroles and my favorite waffles or French Toast. I adore breakfast food. I do NOT, however, love making food first thing in the morning or cleaning up a messy kitchen first thing.
But it’s give and take, right?
So I just need to convince someone in my family that I will do all the weekend breakfasts if they do all the cleanup. It sounds like a good thing, right? Who wants to make a deal? This girl is ready and waiting with open arms and piles of warm homemade waffles.
I adore waffles and French Toast. I can’t choose between the 2 to be perfectly honest. But it had been so long since I made waffles and I decided to make them again as a special treat with some pecks of mini chocolate for extra goodness. They could be dessert or breakfast, your choice.
But if you want to make it seem healthier, go ahead and serve with a heaping of berries. Because they’re good and because we need some nutrition with our chocolate.
This waffle recipe came about when several years ago I tried a waffle recipe in a cookbook. The waffles turned out awful. Like, really awful but I didn’t want to waste the ingredients so I added things and jotted it all down. When they came out perfectly, I knew I would never again need another waffle recipe. This one is perfect if you like a really good buttermilk waffle. And this time around it’s got the lovely chocolate. But feel free to try and make it your own with other additions. However, I haven’t tried anything but the mini chocolate chips.
Save this recipe for the weekend and wow your family or friends with something really warm and delish. What do you say?
Til we meet and eat again,

To make this recipe well:
Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Waffles
Ingredients
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1¼ cups buttermilk*
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Place flour into a medium mixing bowl. Add the baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Stir with a fork to blend.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the eggs. Stir in the buttermilk and melted butter (cooled slightly). Add the flour mixture and stir until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips.
- The batter should be pretty thick. Spray waffle maker with cooking spray if necessary. Pour about 1/2 cup waffle mixture onto hot waffle iron. Cook until crisp and golden. Serve hot.
Notes
My waffle maker uses about 1/2 cup for one full waffle.
These freeze well. Once cool, place on a greased baking sheet. Freeze until solid. Remove and place in a reusable freezer bag. Store for up to 2 months.
