Have you ever had a delicious warm Philly pretzel? I’m a Philly girl. Born and raised. There isn’t anything better than the pretzels or the cheese steaks. Well, besides my family that is. If you ever go to visit promise me you’ll try both.
I met and married my husband and moved to central Pennsylvania. But my heart never left those soft pretzels and cheese steaks. I still love em both.
Several years ago we got a Philly Pretzel Factory in our area. That did me real good. And I kid you not. It opened right next door to a Philly cheese steak place. Are they trying to do me in?
This week I pondered and pondered over how I could reach in a small way to others. I thought about these pretzels and how I’d love to share them with others. So we purchased a big ole bag of em. We took them to a local ministry that gives food and other necessities to the needy.
It was a joy to walk and share with those who have little. I love getting my kids involved in reaching out to others.
I’ll be honest. This time they were grumbling a bit. They just wanted to go do something fun. Monkey Joes or Chucke Cheese they said in unison. But, don’t we always want to spend our time doing enjoyable things?
Don’t we spend our evenings and weekends doing lots of fun things. Things that some others could never dream of doing. We go to museums, amusement parks, corn mazes or the pool. When was the last time we had to wonder where our next meal was coming from? Never have we ever (in our home).
When was the last time we had to figure out how we were going to afford new socks or a winter coat? Never have we ever.
Praise God for His faithfulness. Praise God for His provision. He is good.
But it’s so hard to see some people struggling so hard to get by. I get so much mail from wonderful non-profits like Compassion International, Convoy of Hope, Life Outreach International. I so desperately want to help them all. But I have to make choices and choose one over another. It just doesn’t seem fair.
But God is good.
If everyone’s needs were supplied where would the reliance on God come into play?
If everyone’s needs were met would they be open to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ if it weren’t accompanied by food or water?
If everyone’s needs were supplied would people be desperate enough to hear the life giving message of Jesus?
My answer to all of these is probably not.
So I’m grateful.
Grateful to journey along side people in need of a Savior.
Thanks for stopping by!
Love and blessings,
Melanie
