Hey Friends,
Popping in here to give you some life updates and see if I can back to any sort of routine here in the new year.
1. LOVE-HATE
I hate January. Goodbye lights, fresh evergreen smells and lots of family time. Goodbye sugar cookies, family games and getting oodles of Christmas cards in the mail. ????
I love January. Hello routine, clearing out things and a fresh new calendar. ☺
2. We’ve been doing this thing called No-Spend January for about 4 years in a row now. Guys…it takes so much discipline! I’m not always good at that. But we’re a third of the way there. Woot! Even though this is difficult it’s so good for my sometimes ‘just need more’ mentality.
It’s a great time to cut out the excess and focus on what I already have. I highly recommend setting aside a time with no spending. For us, it’s no spend unless we need it like food (but no eating out), utilities, gas for the cards etc.
I was able to get a Starbucks with a reward I had earned. And thank you Chick-fil-A for your calendar card that allowed me 8 delicious chicken nuggets without spending a dime in January. You are my hero.
3. The washer just broke. Hello. This was no spend January, washer. I guess you didn’t get the memo. Huge gratitude goes out to my neighbor who’s been letting me bring my dirty laundry over to get it done. Because you just don’t last long without a washer with 5 people in the house, huh? And even though we’re strict about no spend January, we need a washer. That’s what the rainy day fund is for.
I’m thrilled with my new choice and am counting down the days until it’s delivered. I went with an LG top loader and I’m hoping for longevity and no issues for years to come!
4. I’m really trying to put my self on a schedule but my ENFP self just stinks at focusing. (Someday we need to share more on personalities.
It would be so fun to dish about this!) I really am terrible at being single-minded at one task and being on a routine. But I’m trying and thanks to Power Sheets I’m doing pretty well. I’ve got goals laid out for the month and the WHY behind those goals which is vitally important to making them stick. What new goals do you have for January?
5. Black coffee. It exists. It happens. Here. In my mouth. OH MY WORD. I can’t believe that I can finally drink black coffee and I’m utterly proud. Just for the record I still prefer a bit of sweet cream but I can finally drink an entire cup and enjoy it. As a matter of fact, I’ve been doing it for about 7 days now. Not so bad, after all. ☺
6. My youngest son got a new game for Christmas called Forbidden Island and we’ve been having a lot of fun with it. It’s a strategy game and the part that I really like is that everyone who plays is playing as a team against the game. This works well in our house. Because I feel like things get out of control at times when he doesn’t win. (A character trait we’re working on.) But it’s nice to have a fun game where we can work together. #winwin
7. Soup, soup, soup. We’ve been eating so much of that here lately. It’s warm, cozy, reheats well and it’s perfect for this frigid weather we’ve been having in Pennsylvania. Since the new year has begun we’ve had pizza soup, chicken corn chili, and broccoli potato cheese soup. Can’t get enough. Next week I think chicken kale and bean soup is on the menu. As long as it’s cold I’ll keep making soup. It makes me happy.
8. You all know how much I love my Cents of Style tees, right? My fav! Well I was so excited to see this NEW one because I’m reading the book (almost done) and I love the concept. Grab yours for $13 off before the sale end soon! Or choose from any of these that are on sale right now.
Til we meet and eat again,
